Rise to Power is an overhaul mod for Crusader Kings II. Rise to Power allows the player to start as an unlanded character in CK2. Players using the Rise to Power mod can play in many unique situations that would cause a regular game to end.

Learn How To

Start As A Lowborn

Selecting a character
Start off by selecting a character to play as, and feel free to use Ruler Designer DLC if you have it. Once you have started playing as your character within the first in game year navigate to the intrigue menu, and there you will find the decision to become lowborn.
Your adventure begins
Your Adventure Begins event should fire prompting you to select your difficulty, make your way through the prompts and select the options you wish to experience. If you do not wish to play as a lowborn selecting the last option will have no effect on your current status.
Verify your new status
Once you have progressed through all of the prompts, you may verify your new status as a low born by checking your Family Coat Of Arms. You should see a field of black, symbolizing the nothing from which you came.

Move To A New Province

Selecting a province and moving in
Once you have selected a province that you wish to live in navigate to the provincial profile screen. From the provincial profile select which settlement you would like to reside in. Note: the owner of the settlement must be of the Duke tier or higher in order to move to that particular settlement. From the settlement profile right click the settlement title icon. The option to move to that settlement should be available.

Become Noble

Shed your bastardy plight
There is only one path to the ranks of the nobility from this unfortunate set of circumstances. Once the world has heard of your great exploits, a noble in your realm will offer you the opportunity to become a member of their noble house. You must have at least 500 prestige and then after some time the adoption event will fire and you can finally rid yourself of your status as a bastard.
Books!
If you are just a lowborn and not a bastard then you fare just slightly better at breaking through to the next social tier. In order to ascend, you first must know how to read. Attempting to learn to read is something your character will do automatically, and hopefully before you die you will learn.
Stake your claim
As a non-bastard lowborn a you have the ability to claim nobility status of your house, but in order to do so you must have a proven track record. Once you have 400 prestige the decision to Claim Nobility will be available in the intrigue menu. If you have the required prestige and you are a learned person (i.e you can read) then you may elevate your house to the nobility rank.

Start A Mercenary Company

Fight, fight, fight
The first part in starting your own mercenary band is having the adventurer trait. Your character may gain this trait by participating in either your liege's wars or in foreign conflicts. There are random events that will fire that will count as progress towards gaining this trait, "Call to Arms", "Invasion", and "Great Holy War" (needs verification). Once, you have participated in 5 of these events you should gain the adventurer trait. Note: that if you are if you are attempting to gain this trait through the events, you should not accept requests from anyone to be appointed as a commander as this seems to reduce and potentially eliminate the chances of these event from firing.

For blood and glory
Once your character has gained the adventurer trait, the decision to start your own mercenary company should be available. You may navigate your way to the intrigue menu an under decisions you should see "Found Mercenary Company". Now all that is left to do is fork up the cost to outfit and pay your crew and then you are on your way a life as a sword for hire.

Start A Holy Order

Deus Vult!
In order to found your own Holy Order, you must first possess one of the above crusader traits for a particular religion. In order to gain a crusader trait you must do one of the following:
1) join an RtP crusader event
2) participate as a levy in 2 Holy Wars started by your liege
3) join the regular vanilla Great Holy War event.
Become a true defender of the faith
Once you have gained one of the mentioned crusader traits, you should now how the decision to Found Holy Order. You may navigate to the intrigue menu, and see it under the list of available decisions. Once you have met the conditions below you then should be able to fire the decision and become the leader of you very own Holy Order.

Acquire A Holding

Petition your liege
Once you have climbed the social ladder an achieved the rank of Noble you are now able to purchase an available holding. In order to purchase an available holding you must currently reside in a settlement inside same the province as the holding (see Move To A New Province). From your Liege's profile you can right click on the county title icon and the option to purchase a holding should be available.
From the provincial profile
Alternatively, you may purchase the holding from the provincial profile instead. To do so just right click on the county title icon and the option to purchase holding should be available.
Select the type of settlement
After you initiate the purchase, you may select what type of settlement you would like to construct.

Recruiting

Volunteers
In order to recruit volunteers, you should right-click on the shield of a barony. After you have right-clicked on the barony shield, you should select the recruit volunteers button.

Escape Prison

Live to fight another day
If you happen to be unfortunate and find yourself held captive in someone's dungeon, and you cannot ransom yourself from your bonds, then you still have a card in hand to play. However, this option isn't one to be taken lightly and is most certainly something you would play when your in back is against the wall. Once you are held prisoner the Escape From Prison intrigue decision will be available.
I'll be back
When you choose this route you will loose 200 Prestige , all of your titles, holdings, Wealth , and you will be affected by the Low Rank modifier. You forfeit everything to spare your life. Use this at the peril of your own honor.
